The main thing younger cousins have going in their favor is their unconditional admiration. They believe that I operate at a higher level (skill at videogames, ability to make trick shots in pool, having a tattoo) and they work for praise and approval.
The same principle applies to new coworkers, baby animals, and people who have just moved to a new city.
